We are people of different nature; we all try to negotiate in the grocery department and with the auto or taxi driver about the fare but when it comes to the big Idea of negotiation like negotiation in the job then we lack far behind.
This is a common issue with us as we don’t know what our value is. “What salary do you expect?” all of us had to face this question once a while in our life and answer to this question is not that simple. Sometimes we ask for more than usual and just because of this we lose a great option or sometimes our demand turns us down and later on we feel cheated. Here are few points that can be helpful when you are about to face this question
Market survey is must: – Check the salary and incentives etc received others on the same position as you are interested to be on. There are many companies having different hierarchy and position hence can mislead you. To solve this problem there is only one way to compare on the bases of education qualification and work experience.
Before going on any interview always remember what your expectation is. It has to be a reasonable offer so that you have clear reason for your offer.
Don’t rush for cash: – The first thing that comes in mind when we start a new job is more and more amount of salary. But you need to take care of few more and important things. Money is important but is the working atmosphere is good or not is also important to know. With this also keep in mind if you can get opportunity of learning or not. The amount of money you are getting can sometimes affect your future scopes too. Check your basic salary and if you get Variable then go through all the bases on which you will be getting your variable.
Don’t approach first: – During the interview when you get the question about salary try to ask their offer or just give a calculative reply on the bases of market research. Make sure you are not concentrating on the salary but on your impression that you are making on the employer.
Let them do the negotiation part and you just impress them with your caliber so that they will offer you what you want.
Don’t hesitate while negotiating: – When the company offers you it may be possible the offer is not as you wish for. But remember one thing is in your favor that they have finally selected you. You can talk to them about the salary don’t accept the offer if you find it less for you also explain them what you feel and give proper reason for what you say.
If you are a capable person then employer won’t let you go just for a small amount of money. So don’t hide what you feel and be clear.
